                  Important Announcement

Parks Victoria advised us on Wednesday 18 March that it has suspended all Friends activities across Victoria for the time being. That means our next activity on the weekend of 28/29 March 2020 has been cancelled. The suspension applies to all Friends of the Prom activities, including the plant nursery group’s fortnightly visits to Tidal River. This decision was made in the interests of reducing the risk of COVID-19 spreading in the community.

We will keep you up to date with developments as they affect FOTP activities.

A fantastic effort by volunteers at the Beach Clean on Saturday 29 February with a total of 161.45 kg of rubbish collected from the beaches, including 1696 pieces of plastic. 41 volunteers combed Norman, Squeaky, Picnic, Whisky, Darby, Cotters and Hourigans beaches and found plenty of rubbish to pick up. Rubbish on the four southern beaches mostly comes from the high number of visitors over summer, while on the remoter northern beaches, the rubbish comes from sources such as shipping and is carried in by sea currents. All the rubbish (that could be carried) was transported back to base where it was sorted, counted, weighed and recorded for Tangaroa Blue’s national database.
